The Everett Years
1991 – 1995
Rev. Everett

While these staff members carried on the day-to-day ministries in 1991, the search committee with Tommy Savage, Grady Barnes, Betty Harrelson, Etta Pace, David DeVane, and alternates Zilphia Stroud and Morry Watkins, asked Rev. Richard W. Everett of the North Carolina Baptist Convention staff to come and preach for us on Sundays. The ministerial staff invited others to preach when Rev. Everett could not come, and this arrangement worked quite well for the church.

Pastor Everett introduced the SBC program, CWT (Continuing Witness Training) to Calvary, placing emphases on evangelism and training of soul-winners. He was a gifted, evangelistic preacher and a very organized person. These organizational skills reflected in his administrative leadership while pastor. He reorganized committees with clearly assigned objectives as to purpose. In keeping with this reorganization, the church constitution, through a committee of church members and under the pastor's leadership, was updated and written to correspond to the church purpose and function.

In addition, the church purchased three adjoining properties from 1992 through 1994 as they came available.

While Brother Everett was pastor, the church approved an application on March 11, 1992 for Nick Butler to attend Fruitland Bible College; Eddie Williams was recommended, September 19, 1993, to attend Southeastern Seminary and was licensed to preach, September 1994. Matt Walton was recommended to attend Gardner-Webb, March 8, 1995, and licensed to preach, June 14, 1995.

Rev. Everett resigned in March 1995 to accept a call to pastor a church in Georgia. His last Sunday at Calvary was March 26, 1995.
